Tips for Caring for Motorized Shades

Motorized shades/motorized roller shades are convenient, easy to use, and can be operated with the flip of a switch. There are 11 different types of motorized shades offered by Draper Inc., a trusted LaForce partner. But how can you take care and maintain motorized shades? Here are a few tips:

How to clean

Most of the shades supplied by Draper can be cleaned easily by vacuuming, utilizing a soft brush attachment. Another option to clean shades, is using a sponge or soft cloth, and mild solution made with warm water and dishwashing detergent. If your shades have a metal finish, use a dry, clean cloth to wipe them down.

If the Shade Isn’t Operating Correctly

If the motorized shades are properly installed, they should not need lubrication to operate. However, if needed, apply a small amount lithium-based grease to the idler pin, but avoid getting any on the shade fabric.

fraying shades

If at any point the shade begins to fray, it can be repaired. If the shade is polyester, carefully use heat to melt the frayed pieces away. If the shade is fiberglass, scissors can be used to trim the fabric.
