Did you know that one of LaForce’s core Division 10 products are fire extinguishers and fire extinguisher cabinets? They are included in almost every building specialties project we work on! Fire extinguishers are a fire protection device that can be used to extinguish or control small fires. In general, there are two types of classification for handheld, cylindrical pressure vessels or non-cylindrical pressure vessels, the latter being less common. Fire extinguishers contain an extinguishing chemical agent that, when discharged, can extinguish a fire, depending on the size.
At LaForce, our Building Specialties experts can assist you with ordering the correct fire extinguisher for your facility, along with the correct cabinet for safe keeping. A fire extinguisher cabinet, usually a wall-mounted unit, is a metal box with a door that provides safe storage, but allows easy access in case of an emergency.
Fire extinguishers can be handheld devices or cart-mounted, known as wheeled extinguishers. They come in a variety of sizes, and normally have a capacity range of 2.5 to 20 pounds, depending on the extinguisher needs and the extinguishing chemical agent. However, there are bigger extinguishers, going up to 350 pounds, to be used at larger facilities such as chemical plants, ship docks, etc. Larsen’s Manufacturing and JL Industries are two LaForce trusted Division 10 suppliers for fire extinguishers, cabinets, and protection.
Per the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 10) Section 13.6.1.2 fire extinguishers are required in all healthcare, business, education, correctional, hotel, industrial, and storage facilities. Fire extinguishers are not required in one or two family dwellings, such as a house or duplex, per NFPA 10. Regardless if it is required or not, it is always a smart idea to have a one available.
