Hands-free and touchless hardware options

Hands-Free Options for Commercial Door Hardware

Did you know that 80% of germs are spread via hands? Here at LaForce and Electronic Security Systems we have several types of commercial door hardware that can aid in the prevention of spreading germs and infectious diseases. We offer a variety of products to meet different needs and budgets.

Touchless Actuators:

In healthcare settings it is common to see automatic door operators. An electronic door opener automatically opens a door upon approach with use of a motion sensor or by use of an actuator, such as a push button. There are options available that are “touchless” in which the actuator uses a common motion sensor to allow door activation.  Motion sensors can be used on a variety of openings such as sliding doors, swinging doors, low energy operators, overhead doors, and more.  These types of actuators are available in different sizes and installation applications.

Arm and Foot Pulls:

Arm and foot pulls are quick, easy and cost-effective solutions to open a door without touching a handle or lever with your hands. This type of hardware is attached to the door and can be used by pulling with your foot, arm or elbow. We offer a variety of options including stainless steel base material, copper anti-microbial material, anti-microbial coating over stainless steel, and multiple finishes. These types of products are perfect in areas such as restrooms, restaurants, and healthcare facilities.

Walk-Through Sanitizing Mist Station:

Upon entering the booth, visitors face a wall mounted scanner that reads their temperature. Once cleared, there is a touchless hand sanitizer dispenser to use. Walking further into the booth, there is a light mist which is used to disinfect using a safe hypochlorous acid solution that kills 99% of bacteria and viruses.

Trimco’s Healthy Hardware Options:

On openings where pushing or pulling a mechanical door handle or lever is necessary, we can offer “Healthy Hardware” from our partners at TRIMCO. Trimco’s Healthy Hardware™ products are manufactured from CuVerro® bactericidal copper alloys that are registered by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). When cleaned regularly, these copper alloys have been proven to kill 99.9% of infectious bacteria* like ecoli, MRSA and Staph. This is not a coating, but rather an all-natural, solid copper-based alloy that will last for the life of the product.

  • Proven to kill 99.9% of infectious bacteria* in 2 hours or less.
  • Not a coating and won’t wear off!
  • Continues to kill bacteria* for the lifetime of the product – 24/7!
  • Looks like stainless steel to match other hardware products.
  • Wide range of hardware and touch surfaces available.
  • Made in North America.
  • Available in commonly used products like door pulls, hospital latches, push plates, exit device push pads, mortise lock levers and trim, and more.

“Hands-Free” Access Control Technology:

Another option becoming popular is “hands-free” access control technology. Our friends over at Openpath have products on the market that use cellular, WIFI, and Bluetooth technology to create hands-free credentials which allows you to walk up to an opening with your mobile credential to grant you entry without needing to take your smartphone out of your pocket or your bag.

Contact us today to get started. We can help determine which doors makes the most sense to apply this type of hardware to. We can also help with your building code questions when altering a door, especially when it involves fire doors and egress specifications.

*Laboratory testing shows that, when cleaned regularly, CuVerro surfaces kill greater than 99.9% of the following bacteria within 2 hours of exposure: Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli O157:H7, and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE). The use of CuVerro® bactericidal copper products is a supplement to and not a substitute for standard infection control practices; users must continue to follow all current infection control practices, including those practices related to cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces. This surface has been shown to reduce microbial contamination, but it does not necessarily prevent cross contamination.
